Cutting-Edge Air Quality Monitoring Station Unveiled in Jebel Ali
Located in the industrial area of Jebel Ali, a small yet powerful air quality monitoring station is making a significant impact. Despite its modest size, this facility can measure 101 types of air pollutants, as well as temperature, humidity, wind direction, and more.
Major Investment for Worker Health and Safety
Unveiled on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, this Dh2 million facility is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of workers in the region. Salem AlHammadi, Director of Environment, Health, and Safety at Trakhees, emphasized the station’s role in maintaining safe air quality. “With numerous factories in Jebel Ali, it’s essential to monitor air pollutants to safeguard the health of residents and workers,” AlHammadi said.
Continuous Monitoring and Data Collection
Operating 24/7, the station collects air quality data every second, which experts at the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation analyze. Air is drawn through a pipe and divided into seven streams, each analyzed by different sensors.
Advanced Pollutant Detection
Eleven sensors, stacked in the facility, measure air quality. Two sensors alone can detect 90 pollutants, while the remaining nine monitor an additional 11 parameters. Some sensors require flames, while others need air and water to function effectively.
Dust Monitoring and Analysis
Specialized sensors focus on fine and large dust particles. Moodhi Ali Rasheed, Senior Officer Environment, Public Health, and Safety at Trakhees, highlighted their importance. “These sensors help predict and analyze dust storms and determine their origins, whether natural or industrial,” Rasheed explained.
Real-Time Data Visualization
A computer system in the station provides real-time data on pollutant levels, shown in both graphs and numerical formats. “This system displays average levels of various chemicals every second and in five-second intervals,” Rasheed added.
Enhancing Quality of Life
Aligned with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, spearheaded by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, this station aims to improve life quality in the emirate. AlHammadi noted, “Accurate air quality data helps shape environmental policies and evaluate the impact of industrial activities, ensuring necessary measures are taken to comply with environmental standards.”
This state-of-the-art facility is a crucial step toward better air quality in Jebel Ali, benefiting both residents and workers.
