Tata Motors, a leader in India’s automotive industry, shared an ambitious roadmap for its upcoming electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The company highlighted its strategic plans for launching several new models, including the much-anticipated Harrier EV, Sierra SUVs, and the futuristic Tata Avinya. These vehicles are set to redefine Tata’s presence in the EV market, showcasing cutting-edge technology and luxurious design.
First introduced as a concept in 2022, the Tata Avinya represents a significant leap forward for the company. Derived from the Sanskrit word for “Innovation,” the Avinya is envisioned as a premium Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) that emphasizes holistic well-being and advanced passenger comfort.
The Avinya concept introduces a sub-family of premium electric SUVs, promising a range of luxurious models, including MPVs and SUVs. These vehicles are expected to offer a blend of innovative materials and sensory elements designed to create a serene and comfortable atmosphere. Inside, the Avinya boasts a futuristic twin-spoke illuminated steering wheel, a voice-activated infotainment system with individual speakers embedded in the headrests, swiveling seats, and advanced camera-based ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors).
Tata Motors’ future EVs, including the Avinya, will be built on the company’s newly developed Gen-3 skateboard EV architecture. This platform, inspired by Jaguar Land Rover’s Electric Modular Architecture (EMA), will underpin all new EVs from both Tata and JLR. Unlike the Harrier’s platform, which is a derivative of Land Rover’s architecture, the Avinya will closely mirror the EMA platform, ensuring a robust and sophisticated foundation for upcoming models.
During the investor meet, Tata Motors outlined its launch schedule for the next few years:
- Curvv EV: Set to launch in August 2024, this model will be among the first to showcase Tata’s evolving EV capabilities.
- Nexon Turbo CNG: Arriving in September 2024, this vehicle will offer an alternative fuel option with turbocharged performance.
- Harrier EV: Scheduled for January 2025, the electric version of Tata’s popular SUV will hit the market with high expectations.
For the Tata Avinya, the company announced that the first vehicle based on the EMA platform will debut by mid-2026. This aligns with Tata’s vision of launching a series of premium and technologically advanced EVs, starting with a model that could closely resemble the Avinya concept showcased in 2022.
