The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) has introduced a pioneering online undergraduate programme in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship, aimed at nurturing future leaders for the digital business landscape. Applications for this programme at IIM Bangalore are open until June 15.
The three-year Bachelor of Business Administration in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship (BBA DBE) curriculum integrates digital technology, business management, and entrepreneurship, preparing students to thrive in the digital era. With a focus on digital strategies and entrepreneurial practices, the programme offers live sessions, mentorship, and hands-on projects for practical experience.
Anticipating an initial enrolment of around 1000 students, the programme comprises approximately 60 courses overseen by a faculty team of over 50 members. It aims to provide equal opportunities to learners from diverse backgrounds and regions, enabling them to pursue their education without relocating or disrupting their lives.
While primarily conducted online, the programme incorporates both digital and in-person interactions to foster a sense of community and facilitate professional growth in a dynamic environment. Students will be required to appear for proctored examinations at designated centres.
Prof Rishikesha T Krishnan, director of IIM Bangalore, highlighted the programme’s launch in September 2024, emphasizing its role in equipping students with the expertise to navigate the digital business landscape. “Our programme focuses on practical learning, enabling students to tackle real-world business challenges and develop innovative solutions,” Krishnan stated.
The initiative also aims to address the decline in Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education, particularly among youth in remote areas. “Many young people need access to industry-ready and contemporary educational programs in their neighbourhoods and are not in a position to migrate to cities for education,” Krishnan explained.
Eligibility for the programme requires a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in recognized board exams for general category and NC-OBC & EWS category candidates. SC, ST & PwD (≥40% disability) candidates need to have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA. Currently, the programme is open only to Indian nationals.
Selection criteria include an aptitude-based Online Qualifier Test and Class 12 marks.
The course structure offers a one-year certificate in Digital Business & Entrepreneurship, a two-year diploma programme, and a three-year degree, each with varying credits and fees ranging from Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh.
The launch of this innovative programme underscores IIM Bangalore’s commitment to delivering accessible and contemporary education, bridging the gap in higher education accessibility and empowering students to thrive in the digital age.
