State-owned RITES Limited has signed a significant contract with Bangladesh Railways to supply 200 broad-gauge passenger carriages. The deal, valued at $111.26 million (approximately Rs 915 crore), is funded by the European Investment Bank and was awarded through a global competitive bidding process, according to a press statement from RITES Limited.
The export arm of Indian Railways, RITES, will not only supply the carriages but also provide expertise in design, spare parts support, and training as part of the contract terms. The supply and commissioning period for the carriages is set at 36 months, followed by a 24-month warranty period.
This contract underscores RITES Limited’s dedication to promoting growth through the export of high-quality, indigenously developed railway rolling stock, aligning with the ‘Make in India, for the World’ vision.
“RITES has been a longstanding partner in Bangladesh’s infrastructure development journey. Previously, we supplied 120 BG Passenger Coaches (LHB type), 36 BG locomotives, and 10 Meter Gauge locomotives to Bangladesh Railways, along with collaborating on other infrastructure projects,” the company stated.
The agreement further solidifies RITES’ role in enhancing Bangladesh’s railway infrastructure and strengthens the bilateral cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the transportation sector.
