The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled the “Blue Residency” visa. Announced following a cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the visa initiative targets individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to environmental protection and sustainability efforts.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized the importance of environmental preservation in alignment with the national directives set forth by the UAE President. The “Blue Residency” visa, valid for a period of ten years, seeks to honor individuals who have made remarkable strides in safeguarding marine life, land-based ecosystems, air quality, sustainability technologies, the circular economy, and related fields.
Highlighting the interconnectedness of economic and environmental sustainability, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the UAE’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing environmental initiatives. He emphasized that the nation’s vision is resolute in promoting sustainable practices across various sectors.
The introduction of the “Blue Residency” marks a pioneering step in recognizing the contributions of individuals who champion environmental causes both within and outside the UAE. The initiative aims to bolster the country’s ongoing efforts in sustainability and aligns with the directives to extend the Year of Sustainability initiative from 2023 into 2024.
Eligibility for the “Blue Residency” extends to supporters of environmental action, including members of international organizations, global companies, associations, non-governmental organizations, award recipients, and distinguished activists and researchers in environmental fields. Emirati nationals and responsible residents advocating for environmental protection are also encouraged to apply.
Individuals interested in the UAE’s “Blue Residency” are invited to submit their applications directly through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Alternatively, nominations can be made by competent authorities within the state for deserving candidates recommended for consideration.
