As the world’s most populous country, with a staggering population exceeding 1.43 billion, India has witnessed remarkable advancements in its aviation sector. This progress not only facilitates travel but also contributes significantly to technological, infrastructural, educational, scientific, and medical domains.

1. Indira Gandhi Airport: India’s Aviatic Giant

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) stands as India’s largest and the world’s second busiest airport in terms of seating capacity. Situated in Delhi, it boasts a sprawling runway spanning 4430 meters and offers a plethora of amenities including diverse shopping, dining options, and extensive passenger services. Serving over 65.3 million passengers annually, IGI connects 59 airlines to 97 destinations worldwide.

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai: A Gateway to the West

Operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the second largest in India. Spread over 1450 acres, it accommodates more than 40 million visitors annually, with 49 airlines connecting it to 83 global destinations.

3. Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore: Southern Star

Operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited, this airport in Bangalore was founded in 2008. Handling over 1000 flights daily, it offers top-notch facilities for cargo operations and can host approximately 25 million passengers annually.

4. Manohar International Airport, Goa: Coastal Charm

Also known as Moga Airport, this fourth-largest Indian airport sprawls across 2132 acres in Goa. Managed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited, it offers modern amenities including an ILS instrument landing system and a variety of dining options.

5. Dabolim Airport Goa: A Gateway to Paradise

Established in 1955, Dabolim Airport serves as one of Goa’s principal airports and the fifth largest in India. Managing both international and national flights, it provides a breathtaking view of Goa’s landscape and beaches.

6. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport: Eastern Elegance

Located in Kolkata, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport is the largest airport in Eastern India and the sixth busiest in the country. Boasting two runways and premium facilities, it ensures smooth operations even during adverse weather conditions.

7. Birsa Munda Airport: A Tribute to Tribal Heritage

Named after a tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda Airport, also known as Ranchi Airport, is managed by the Airport Authority of India. With seamless operations and modern amenities, it can handle up to 2.4 million passengers annually.

8. Dr. Babasaheb International Airport, Nagpur: A City’s Pride

Situated strategically in Nagpur, this airport boasts ample facilities including car parking, check-in counters, and immigration counters. Owned by the Airport Authority of India, it serves as a gateway to the city’s beauty.

9. Cochin International Airport, Kochi: A Sustainable Marvel

Renowned as the first airport run by solar power and built through a PPP approach, Cochin International Airport offers a unique blend of sustainability and efficiency. With three terminals and a cargo terminal, it serves as a vital transportation hub in South India.

10. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport: Kerala’s Gateway to the World

Founded in 1932, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport holds the distinction of being Kerala’s first airport and the fifth international airport in India. Its strategic location and modern facilities make it a key player in India’s aviation landscape.
