Indian Railways, in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has launched the initiative of “Economy Meals” aimed at offering passengers quality, affordable, and hygienic meals during the summer travel season.
Two Meal Options Available
Under this new concept, passengers traveling in general coaches can choose from two meal options: economy meals priced at ₹20 and snack meals priced at ₹50. These meals are available at specially designated meal counters operational at over 100 stations nationwide, including 12 stations within the South Central Railway (SCR) zone.
Expansion of Services
The introduction of economy meals comes after the successful pilot of the service at approximately 51 stations. Now, nearly 150 counters are operational across Indian Railways to cater to the growing demand for budget-friendly meal options for travelers.
Accessible Stations
The stations offering economy meals include Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta, Guntakal, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Vikarabad, Pakala, Dhone, Nandyal, Purna, and Aurangabad railway stations. Additionally, water facilities are also available at counters near general second-class (GS) coaches on platforms for passengers’ convenience.
Continued Commitment to Passenger Comfort
With the rollout of economy meals, Indian Railways and IRCTC demonstrate their dedication to enhancing the travel experience for passengers, ensuring they have access to affordable and nutritious meals while journeying across the country.
