The Central Government introduced the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme in the country in 2016 to foster skill development among individuals possessing expertise. Aimed at offering fruitful avenues for individuals with proficiency in various sectors, this initiative focuses on providing practical, industry-oriented training coupled with financial assistance to job seekers.
Under the scheme’s provisions, the Indian government commits to providing 25% of a predetermined stipend to apprentices. This stipend can amount to a maximum of Rs. 1500 per month for each apprentice. Additionally, a maximum of Rs. 7500 per month is earmarked for basic training costs for fresh apprentices, with the underlying principle that such expenses will be shared with the employers providing basic training.
State Apprenticeship Advisers (SAs), Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RDATs), and other designated agencies in respective states or regions are responsible for implementing the scheme.
The scheme encompasses apprentices across various categories, including graduate, technician, and technician (vocational) apprentices, offering assistance under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
To facilitate the conduct of apprenticeship training, an online portal has been established to provide seamless services. The details can be fetched from https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/
