Indian billionaire and CEO of Zoho Corporation, Sridhar Vembu, has recently made headlines with his unconventional addition to his vehicle collection. Vembu took to social media to share images of his latest ride, an electric autorickshaw, showcasing his penchant for eco-friendly transportation.
This isn’t the first time Vembu has embraced electric vehicles, as he had previously acquired a Tata Nexon EV for personal use in 2022. However, his recent acquisition of the Montra Electric Super Auto from the Murugappa Group demonstrates his commitment to sustainable mobility.
Expressing his excitement, Vembu captioned the image of his new autorickshaw, stating, “I am excited that my brand new electric auto Montra from the Murugappa Group is here. Fast pickup and nice suspension. I am loving it!” Clearly, Vembu was impressed by the ride quality and performance of this electric auto.
His decision to opt for an electric autorickshaw has garnered praise from followers, highlighting a departure from the trend of wealthy businessmen investing in expensive and exotic cars for personal use. Instead, Vembu’s choice reflects his practical approach to transportation, suitable for both leisurely drives on his property and local commutes.
The Montra Electric Super Auto, launched in 2022, has received accolades for its innovative design and functionality. Notably, it secured the prestigious International Red Dot Design Award in 2023 in the ‘Innovative Last Mile Mobility Electric Passenger Vehicle’ category. A recent update to the electric auto introduced a longer driving range, powered by a 10 kW lithium-ion battery pack, certified by ARAI to cover 203 km.
Priced between Rs 3.02 lakh to Rs 3.50 lakh, ex-showroom, the Montra Electric Super Auto offers an affordable yet eco-conscious transportation solution. Vembu’s embrace of this electric autorickshaw underscores the growing popularity and viability of electric vehicles in India’s automotive landscape.
