InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of India’s leading airline IndiGo, is gearing up to revolutionize air travel in India with the introduction of an air taxi service. Set to commence operations by 2026, the service aims to provide seamless connectivity between Delhi’s bustling Connaught Place and the thriving business hub of Gurgaon in Haryana.
This innovative venture is poised to transform urban mobility, offering passengers a swift and convenient alternative to traditional modes of transportation. In addition to the Delhi-Gurgaon route, InterGlobe Enterprises plans to expand its air taxi services to Mumbai and Bengaluru in the near future, enhancing connectivity and easing commuter congestion in major metropolitan areas.
Partnering with US-based Archer Aviation, InterGlobe Enterprises has secured 200 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to power its air taxi fleet. With a significant investment of $1 billion in the segment, Archer Aviation is committed to advancing sustainable aviation technology and reducing carbon emissions.
These cutting-edge eVTOL aircraft are equipped with battery-powered propulsion systems, capable of achieving full charge within a remarkably short timeframe of 30-40 minutes. Under the leadership of Founder and CEO Adam Goldstein, Archer Aviation is actively engaging with regulatory authorities, including the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to ensure the certification and safety compliance of its aircraft.
The air taxi service is projected to offer passengers a seamless and time-efficient travel experience, with an estimated travel cost ranging between Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per trip. With a swift travel time of just 7 minutes between Delhi and Gurgaon, the air taxi service promises to significantly reduce commute times and enhance overall accessibility.
In comparison, the same journey by road typically takes 90 minutes, covering a distance of approximately 27-30 kilometers. The air taxi service not only offers a faster alternative but also provides greater flexibility and convenience for travelers, accommodating up to four passengers per trip.
As InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation spearhead the development of air taxi services in India, the initiative holds immense potential to revolutionize urban mobility, promote sustainable transportation solutions, and elevate the overall travel experience for commuters across the country.
