After serving as a technical program manager at Microsoft in the US for an additional three years, Ruchit Garg made the bold decision to depart from the corporate realm in 2011. Despite a lucrative salary of approximately INR 1 crore per annum, Garg found himself grappling with a sense of ennui, prompting him to seek a more fulfilling path. His dissatisfaction with the corporate environment led him to embark on a new venture aimed at addressing critical issues in the agricultural sector. Currently, Garg is actively involved in pioneering efforts to revolutionize agriculture through innovative solutions tailored to empower farmers and enhance sustainability.

Ruchit Garg’s career trajectory embodies a profound transition from the corporate world to social entrepreneurship, marked by a deep-rooted passion for agriculture and a relentless pursuit of meaningful impact.

Ruchit embarked on his professional journey with a stint at Microsoft’s Hyderabad office, where he served as a technical program manager for three years. His expertise and dedication were duly recognized, leading to a pivotal shift to the company’s headquarters in Redmond. However, despite the lucrative prospects, Ruchit found himself yearning for a different path.

In 2011, Ruchit took a bold leap of faith by departing from his corporate role to fulfill his entrepreneurial aspirations. Dissatisfied with the conventional corporate environment, he sought to channel his energies into building something with a profound impact. Drawing inspiration from his familial roots in agriculture and a desire to make a tangible difference, Ruchit ventured into the realm of agricultural entrepreneurship.

Founding Harvesting: Ruchit’s vision materialized with the establishment of Harvesting, a venture aimed at revolutionizing the agricultural landscape by empowering small-holder farmers. Harvesting’s core mission revolves around eliminating intermediaries and providing farmers with access to essential resources, including advisory services, seeds, pesticides, and market platforms. By bridging the gap between farmers and consumers, Harvesting not only ensures fair compensation for farmers but also delivers fresh farm produce to consumers.

Driven by his grandfather’s legacy and a profound sense of purpose, Ruchit envisions Harvesting as the next-generation Amul, fostering sustainable agricultural practices and economic empowerment for farmers. Through his venture, he has not only realized his entrepreneurial dreams but also embarked on a journey to create meaningful societal impact.

Ruchit’s pursuit of knowledge and personal growth is a testament to his unwavering determination. Despite financial constraints, he voraciously consumed literature, utilizing the library as his haven for learning. His triumphant moment at Harvard University, where he purchased his own copy of the Harvard Business Review, encapsulates his journey from humble beginnings to academic recognition on a global platform.
