Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud felicitated Pragya, the daughter of a cook employed at the Supreme Court, for her remarkable achievement. Pragya, a 25-year-old law researcher, garnered scholarships to pursue her Masters at two prestigious US universities – the University of California and the University of Michigan.
The judges, including Chief Justice Chandrachud, gathered at the judges’ lounge to honor Pragya, where she received a standing ovation for her outstanding accomplishment. Expressing his pride and support, Justice Chandrachud assured Pragya of the court’s backing, stating, “We know Pragya has managed something on her own, but we will ensure she manages to get whatever is required… We expect that she should come back to serve the country.”
Recognizing her potential to carry the aspirations of millions, Justice Chandrachud presented Pragya with three books on the Indian Constitution, signed by all the judges of the top court. Additionally, as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices, he offered shawls to Pragya’s parents.
In her gratitude towards Justice Chandrachud and others for the felicitation, Pragya acknowledged the unwavering support of her parents throughout her journey. She expressed, “I think I am very privileged to be his child. He has helped me since my school days, and he always made sure that I get the opportunities that I should get.”
Furthermore, Pragya revealed that her inspiration to pursue a career in law stemmed from Chief Justice DY Chandrachud himself. She highlighted his role in mentoring young lawyers and described his words as invaluable gems. “With the live streaming of court hearings, everyone can watch him (Justice Chandrachud) speaking. He encourages young lawyers, and his words are like gems. He is my inspiration,” she conveyed to the news agency PTI.
Pragya’s story not only serves as a testament to her perseverance and dedication but also underscores the impact of recognition and encouragement in nurturing talent and inspiring future generations.
