The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has greenlit substantial funding amounting to Rs 6,621.62 crore for the construction of eight stretches along National Highway-913, aptly named the Frontier Highway. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari took to social media platform X to announce the comprehensive project, covering a total length of 265.49 km.
Gadkari outlined the scope of the initiative, highlighting the inclusion of packages 1, 3, and 5, which span the Huri-Taliha section, as well as two packages along the Bile-Migging section. Additionally, packages 2 and 4 will oversee the development of the Kharsang-Maio-Gandhigram-Vijaynagar section, while package 1 focuses on the Bomdila-Nafra-Lada section. Emphasizing the significance of these highway stretches, Gadkari emphasized their role in bolstering connectivity to border areas and stimulating socio-economic progress in the region.
The minister underscored the potential impact of the Frontier Highway project, noting its anticipated contribution to mitigating migration trends and facilitating reverse migration towards the border regions of Arunachal Pradesh. The project’s strategic objectives align with the broader agenda of fostering development and inclusivity in remote and underserved areas.
In a separate announcement on X, Gadkari revealed MoRTH’s approval of Rs 1,346.81 crore for the expansion of an existing two-lane paved shoulder on National Highway-716, stretching from the Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh border to Puttur (20.03 km). This ambitious project entails upgrading the stretch to a four-lane configuration with paved shoulder, with the aim of transforming it into a fully access-controlled corridor.
Gadkari emphasized the significance of this development in enhancing connectivity and accessibility, particularly in linking the sacred cities of Tiruthani and Tirupathi. The project is poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating smoother and safer transportation along this crucial corridor, catering to the needs of commuters and pilgrims alike.
The allocation of funds for these transformative highway projects underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and socio-economic advancement across diverse regions of the country. The initiatives hold promise for fostering inclusive growth, enhancing connectivity, and unlocking the untapped potential of remote areas, thereby contributing to the overall progress and prosperity of the nation.
