Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently allocated approximately ₹10,000 crore in bank loans and capitalization support to Self-Help Groups (SHGs). During an event titled “Sashakt Nari – Viksit Bharat” at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), Modi urged SHGs to play a pivotal role in implementing the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Under the PM Suryagarh scheme, households consuming up to 240 units of electricity will receive free electricity, with a 100% subsidy on installation costs. However, households installing more than two panels will need to cover some installation expenses.
Empowering Women with Drones and Financial Support
At the same event, PM Modi distributed drones to 1,000 Namo Drone Didis (women drone pilots) and disbursed around ₹8,000 crore in loans to SHGs at subsidized interest rates. Additionally, approximately ₹2,000 crore was provided as capitalization support to SHGs.
Modi commended the determination and persistence of women, highlighting their pivotal role in the Republic Day parade and their significant contributions to society. He emphasised his government’s commitment to empowering women, with over 1 crore women already benefiting from various schemes.
Expanding Opportunities and Ensuring Dignity
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of creating opportunities and upholding the dignity of women, asserting that society can only progress through these efforts.
Modi envisioned the transformative potential of drone technology in agriculture and beyond, including transportation of milk, vegetables, and medicines. He emphasised the central role of women in driving this technological revolution.
Looking ahead, PM Modi expressed confidence in ushering in a new era of women’s empowerment, with a vision to address their needs and aspirations comprehensively.
