The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has reached a significant milestone by completing around 92,000 kilometers of national highways in the past nine and a half years. According to MoRTH secretary Anurag Jain, this achievement is expected to increase to 95,000 kilometers by the end of the upcoming month. Speaking at an event organized by the International Road Federation (IRF), Jain highlighted the ministry’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to transform transportation planning and develop forward-thinking transport models.
Jain emphasized the necessity of constructing high-speed corridors capable of addressing anticipated congestion and meeting the evolving needs of a growing population over the next five decades. He stressed that these corridors play a crucial role in tackling future traffic challenges effectively.
Jain also revealed that the ministry has diligently identified and prioritized addressing the majority of black spots on national highways across the country, with plans to mitigate them by March 2025.
The collaborative efforts between MoRTH and organizations like the IRF are pivotal in fostering innovation and driving progress in the transportation sector, ensuring its resilience and adaptability to future challenges.
