The Tata Group is currently in discussions with Uber Technologies to explore a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering traffic and engagement on Tata’s digital platform, as per a report by the Economic Times published on February 15.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the envisioned collaboration may entail integrating Uber’s services as a central app within Tata’s ecosystem. Tata Neu, positioned as a ‘super app’, purportedly faces challenges such as stagnant user growth and limited engagement, according to insiders.
Despite these hurdles, Tata Neu is actively striving to fortify its market position. It’s been reported that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran had a meeting during the Davos conference earlier this year, with further discussions anticipated during Khosrowshahi’s upcoming visit to India.
While Tata Digital, the entity overseeing Tata Neu, has denied any ongoing discussions, Uber has yet to confirm the talks. The specific terms of the potential partnership are still being negotiated, and there’s no assurance of finalization at this juncture.
Notably, in February last year, Tata Motors inked an agreement with Uber for the supply of 25,000 electric vehicles, signalling a deepening relationship between the two entities.
As discussions progress, stakeholders eagerly await updates on the potential collaboration between the Tata Group and Uber Technologies.
