Following the grand opening of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi on February 14. The forthcoming event is part of a series of engagements, including the Indian community event, Ahlan Modi (Hello Modi), scheduled at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in UAE on February 13.

Official Statement on the Inauguration

The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha released an official statement indicating that the Mandir’s construction is nearing completion. His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is scheduled to inaugurate the Mandir on February 14, 2024. Mahant Swami Maharaj, a spiritual leader, arrived in Abu Dhabi ahead of the inauguration as a state guest to preside over this historic moment.

Abu Dhabi’s First BAPS Hindu Temple: A 10-Point Guide

The Middle East’s First Traditional Hindu Stone Temple: The BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi is set to become the region’s first traditional Hindu stone temple. Located in the Abu Mureika area, it symbolises cultural peace and collaboration, reflecting the enduring friendship between India and the UAE.

Generous Donation of Land: In 2015, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, donated 13.5 acres of land for the construction of the temple, showcasing a commitment to intercultural harmony.

PM Modi’s Endorsement: Prime Minister Modi and BAPS Swami Ishwarcharandas met in December, where Modi expressed enthusiastic support for the historic temple. The Prime Minister’s endorsement marked a pivotal moment in the temple’s journey.

Collaborative Organisational Efforts: A registration portal has been established, and transportation from all emirates is being arranged for participants. The event is a collaborative effort involving 150 Indian community organisations in the UAE.

Symbol of Peace and Tolerance: Positioned atop a hillock on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, the temple pays homage to the enduring tradition of peace and tolerance inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Sheikh Zayed.

Cultural Extravaganza: A cultural program featuring 400 local talents aims to enhance the inauguration ceremony. Over the past three years, more than 2,000 artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat have meticulously crafted the 402 white marble pillars for the temple.

Foundation and International Recognition: The foundation for the first traditional BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi was laid on April 20, 2019. In May 2023, diplomats from over 30 countries visited the under-construction temple site, recognizing its global significance.

Acknowledgment of Contributions: Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the efforts of key individuals, volunteers, and supporters involved in the project, including Chairman Ashok Kotecha, Vice Chairman Yogesh Mehta, and Director Chirag Patel.

Unprecedented Euphoria: The event has generated an “unprecedented euphoria” in the UAE, with nearly 12,000 registrations received within 24 hours of the announcement.

Bilateral Collaboration: India and the UAE strengthened their collaboration by signing four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), reinforcing their commitment to bilateral ties. These agreements were finalised during discussions between Prime Minister Modi and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

As the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi approaches its inauguration, it stands as a testament to the shared values and cultural bonds between India and the UAE. The collaborative efforts involved in its construction underscore the significance of fostering intercultural understanding and friendship on a global scale.
