As Ayodhya prepares for the grand consecration ceremony of Shri Ram Temple on January 22, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking strides towards making the sacred city a model solar city. A notable addition to these preparations is the launch of India’s first solar-powered electric boat in the Saryu River, marking a significant leap towards eco-friendly initiatives.
Solar Innovation:
In an unprecedented move, Ayodhya becomes the first Indian city to witness the introduction of a solar-powered boat in its river. This groundbreaking initiative is a collaborative venture between the Uttar Pradesh New Energy Development Authority (UPNEDA) and a Pune-based boat manufacturing company. Following its Ayodhya debut, the solar boat is set to grace the waters of the Ganga River in Varanasi.
Eco-Friendly Marvel in the Saryu:
The solar boat in the Saryu River distinguishes itself through its commitment to eco-friendly practices. Unlike traditional boats reliant on fossil fuels, this vessel operates solely on 100% solar power, with the added capability of switching to electric power. Its catamaran design, featuring a lightweight yet robust fibreglass body, positions it as a beacon of sustainable transportation.
Key Features of the Solar Boat:
- Passenger Capacity: The boat accommodates up to 30 passengers and operates from Ayodhya’s new ghat on the Saryu River.
- Travel Convenience: Devotees can reach Ayodhya in approximately 45 minutes, enjoying a serene journey along the Saryu banks to explore historical temples and heritage sites.
- Sustainable Range: With a full charge, the solar boat boasts an operational span of 5 to 6 hours, ensuring a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation.
Specifications of the Solar Boat:
- Solar Power Generation: Equipped with 3.3-kilowatt rooftop solar panels, the boat generates 550 watts of energy.
- Propulsion System: The boat features a 12-volt twin motor powered by a 46-kilowatt-hour battery.
- Speed Range: Capable of cruising at speeds ranging from 6 knots to 9 knots, providing both efficiency and flexibility.
- Remote Monitoring: The solar boat is equipped with remote viewing capabilities, allowing inspection from any location.
- As Ayodhya embraces sustainability and innovation, the introduction of the solar boat in the Saryu River not only signifies a historic moment but also paves the way for cleaner and greener practices in water transportation.
