Zuckerberg's Lavish Hawaiian Cattle Ranch Draws Criticism for Environmental Impact

Mark Zuckerberg’s foray into the world of high-quality beef cattle at his Ko’olau ranch on Kauai, Hawaii, is facing criticism for being perceived as out of touch and environmentally irresponsible. The Meta billionaire’s ranch, where cows are fed macadamia nuts and beer, has raised eyebrows and stirred controversy.

A Billionaire’s Unusual Ranching Methods

Critics are labelling Zuckerberg’s cattle-raising project as “a billionaire’s strange sideshow,” emphasising concerns about its environmental impact. The ranch, spanning 1,400 acres and valued at $100 million, not only houses cattle but also features an underground bunker and various energy projects, according to recent investigations.

Environmentalists Slam Ranching Practices

The choice of raising cattle on water-intensive macadamia nuts and beer within the compound has drawn ire from environmentalists. Mitch Jones, policy director at Food & Water Watch, criticises the project, calling for real agriculture reform to address food system inequities and the challenges posed by a warming climate.

Beef Industry’s Environmental Consequences

The beef industry’s contribution to deforestation, water pollution, and global heating is well-documented. With beef being a major emitter of greenhouse gases, critics argue that promoting sustainable agriculture practices and reducing beef consumption is crucial for addressing climate concerns.

Online Mockery and Animal Rights Advocacy

Zuckerberg’s venture has not escaped online mockery, with users on social media platforms like X poking fun at his new career as a beef farmer. Animal rights groups, including Peta, condemn the project, accusing Zuckerberg of being stuck in the “dark ages” and emphasizing the need for ethical and sustainable farming practices.

In an era focused on addressing climate change, Zuckerberg’s ranching methods have ignited discussions about the responsibility of high-profile individuals in promoting environmentally friendly practices.
