Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled a prototype e-bike tailored for delivery companies, signaling a strategic move towards environmentally friendly transport. Muhannad Khaled Al Muhairi, Director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA’s Licensing Agency, reportedly emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance current and future commercial transport services, promoting the transition to zero-emission transportation.
Collaborating with industry experts, RTA conducted extensive research to develop an e-bike model specifically suited for the demands of delivery services. The goal is to encourage businesses to adopt green and eco-friendly transportation methods. As part of the initiative, plans are underway to establish charging stations throughout Dubai to support the e-bikes.
Al Muhairi highlighted the potential cost savings associated with the shift to e-bikes, emphasizing a reduction in operational expenses linked to a decreased reliance on fossil fuels. The advanced technology incorporated into the e-bikes is touted to surpass traditional motorcycles, promising a decrease in incident rates.
While specific technical specifications were not disclosed, visual evidence suggests that the black and white e-bikes share design elements with conventional scooters, featuring a step-through frame and smaller wheels. Al Muhairi explained that these e-bikes offer superior technology, akin to petrol engine-powered scooters ranging from 50cc to 125cc. Typically equipped with automatic transmissions, lights, turn signals, and horns, these e-bikes provide enhanced mobility and higher top speeds compared to mopeds.
Al Muhairi emphasized the RTA’s commitment to delivering more effective and sustainable services aligned with the objectives of Dubai Vision 2030, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 30%. This initiative also aligns with the Year of Sustainability 2023, showcasing Dubai’s dedication to environmentally conscious practices.
