On December 17, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly constructed Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat, with an estimated cost of INR 3,400 crores. Positioned as the “world’s largest corporate office hub,” this diamond bourse, located in Surat’s Khajod locality, aims to become a global epicenter for both rough and polished diamond trading.
Featuring over 4,500 interconnected offices, the Diamond Bourse stands as the world’s largest interconnected building, boasting a substantial 67 lakh square feet. The facility also houses India’s largest customs clearance house. The primary objective behind this establishment is to streamline the import, export, and trade of diamonds, gems, and jewelry, providing a modern infrastructure and a global platform for diamond trading. The initiative seeks to cater to enterprises of all sizes, including small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in diamond production and business.
The Diamond Bourse offers direct connectivity with international buyers, attracting not only established diamond companies but also small entrepreneurs from MSMEs who couldn’t afford offices in Mumbai. Around 135 offices within the Bourse have commenced operations post-Diwali.
The comprehensive facility includes various amenities such as a spacious entrance, reception area, security surveillance and control room, trading hall, self-deposit vault, museum, food zone, bank, customs office, amphitheatre, money transfer desk, travel desk, retail zone, and auction facilities. The Bourse comprises nine towers with a ground floor, 15 additional floors, and two basements. Office sizes range from 300 square feet to 1,00,000 square feet.
Equipped with 131 high-speed lifts operating at 3 meters per second and managed by an advanced destination control system, the Bourse ensures a swift three-minute journey for individuals to reach the 16th floor. With 35.54 acres dedicated to its premises, including 15 acres exclusively for a garden area following the Panchatatva theme, the Surat Diamond Bourse signifies a significant milestone in India’s diamond trade infrastructure.
