In the ever-evolving realm of social media trends, Gen Z in India emerges as the trendsetter, according to insights from Instagram’s ‘2024 Trend Talk.’ This article delves into the unique characteristics and priorities of Indian Gen Z, highlighting their influence on various domains.

The upcoming year is poised to witness Gen Z in India leading key trends on Instagram. The trends span a wide spectrum, emphasizing robust career values, a keen sense of meme preferences and an appreciation for diverse culinary experiences. Unlike their global counterparts, Indian Gen Z is at the forefront of embracing emerging trends in culinary, beauty, and fashion.

Unveiling the spirit of Indian GenZ

Paras Sharma, Director of Content and Community Partnerships at Meta India, sheds light on the distinctive characteristics of Indian Gen Z. He underscores their upbeat and entrepreneurial spirit, showcasing enthusiasm for exploring new interests across various domains. Sharma emphasizes their unwavering dedication to chosen fandoms and commitment to self-improvement, positioning them uniquely in the global landscape.

Entertainment? No! Serious Priorities in 2024

As we step into 2024, the primary concerns for Gen Z in India revolve around maintaining good health, exploring diverse career avenues, and immersing themselves in enriching travel experiences. Notably, their heightened emphasis on professional pursuits distinguishes them from their global counterparts. A substantial 43% express aspirations for personal growth and development in the coming year.

DIY Trends and Preferences

Approximately 44% of Gen Z in India showcase a keen interest in do-it-yourself (DIY) activities and experimenting with unconventional styles in clothing. The research also highlights that one-fourth of Gen Z respondents consider getting a new hairstyle as their favorite beauty trend, reflecting their dynamic approach to personal expression.

Fandoms, Gaming, Sports and many more

Virtually every member of Gen Z in India identifies with a specific fandom, spanning music enthusiasts, avid gamers, and sports aficionados. From the BTS army, Swifties, AR Rahman, and Anirudh to gaming in Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Roblox, their diverse interests contribute to a rich cultural tapestry. In sports, their affiliations extend to the Indian Cricket Team, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

The enthusiasm for exploration and individuality is mirrored in the career choices of Indian Gen Z, particularly their inclination towards startups. The Outlook Toulana Youth Survey 2022, based on over 1800 interviews, reveals that an impressive 90% believe startups offer promising career prospects. Furthermore, 43% express that their primary motivation for venturing into entrepreneurship is to generate employment opportunities and establish their own companies.
