Renowned British installation artist Luke Jerram’s impressive Museum of the Moon exhibit is on display at the Global Science Festival taking place in January. Standing as a testament to the illusionary beauty of the moon, the exhibit is strategically positioned at the southern hemisphere’s moon museum, Kanakakunnu. With a diameter of 23 feet, it showcases various aspects of the moon’s surface, offering a mesmerizing experience to the onlookers.
The lunar reconnaissances captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, which traveled to the moon from Earth, form the basis for the lifelike images of the moon presented. The unique appearance of the moon, as captured through real lunar reconnaissance, is now standing tall at the Museum of the Moon, inaugurated by Minister K.N. Balagopal.
Additionally, the exhibit features the southern pole of the moon, visible in Kanakakunnu. The viewing experience at each centimeter of the exhibit’s surface area spans 5 kilometers. The presentation of the moon’s natural features is achieved through the strategic use of lights. The exhibit showcases every facet of the moon, allowing observers to explore it fully.
The southern pole, previously unseen in Kanakakunnu, is now visible. This installation is the second edition in India, following its previous showcase in India. The musical background, curated by Grammy Award-winning musician Dan Jones, further enhances the visual experience.
