Artificial intelligence has seen remarkable advancements in recent years. OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) research lab behind ChatGPT, unveiled a suite of products at its inaugural developer conference, OpenAI DevDay, including an upgraded version of its flagship GPT large language model (LLM), GPT-4 Turbo, and tools for building customised AI chatbots.
Reportedly, OpenAI plans to release a production-ready version of GPT-4 Turbo in the coming weeks.
Speaking at the OpenAI Developer Conference, Altman announced that GPT-4 Turbo has knowledge of world events up to April 2023, a huge leap from the GPT-4 version that was trained on data up to September 2021.
The OpenAI CEO was quoted by Bloomberg as saying, “We are just as annoyed as all of you — probably more — that GPT-4’s knowledge about the world ended at 2021… We will try to never let it get that out of date again.”
GPT-4 Turbo will have access to a larger pool of information, boasting a 128,000 context window. OpenAI said that this context window is equivalent to more than 300 pages of text within a single prompt. According to the company, GPT-4 Turbo offers cost benefits for developers. Input will now be priced at just $0.01 per 1,000 tokens, which are the fundamental units of text or code that LLMs read, as opposed to the previous $0.03 with GPT-4.
In a blogpost about GPT-4 Turbo and other releases, OpenAI wrote, “We also optimized its performance so we are able to offer GPT-4 Turbo at a 3 times cheaper price for input tokens and a 2 times cheaper price for output tokens compared to GPT-4.”
Apart from this, OpenAI has also launched its version of the app store. As per reports, this app can be accessed by users and developers to launch their personalised AI chatbots.
At the heart of GPT-4 lies a complex and powerful neural network architecture fueled by an extensive corpus of training data sourced from diverse and broad text repositories. This unparalleled combination enables GPT-4 to comprehend, generate and manipulate human language with a level of precision and fluency that has never been seen before.
