A statue of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is set to be unveiled on Wednesday, coinciding with the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.
The ceremony will see the participation of many dignitaries including the man himself will grace the occasion with his presence, and among other notable guests are Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, and the distinguished Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis. The cricketing world will be well-represented as well, with key figures from the BCCI making their presence felt, including Secretary Jay Shah and Treasurer Ashish Shelar. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will also be present, with President Amol Kale, Secretary Ajinkya Naik, and other members of the apex council coming together to pay tribute to the Master Blaster on this iconic occasion.
The God of Cricket played his last international game at this very ground, his home venue, against West Indies in a Test match in November 2013. It is also the same ground India won the 2011 World Cup beating Sri Lanka in the final. Following the win, Tendulkar’s teammates carried him on their shoulders and did a victory lap.
As per available sources, the statue will be positioned next to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. Also, the sculpture was crafted by artist Pramod Kamble.
Earlier this year, it was disclosed that a statue of Sachin Tendulkar, who celebrated his 50th birthday in April, would be placed in the stadium. The final preparations and finishing touches for the statue were being carried out on Tuesday.
