Prominent tech company HP has introduced refurbished laptops in India to enable easy access to affordable computing, launching a refurbished laptop program through an HP certified partner for retail customers and businesses. Operated in a subscription model, the initiative reportedly aims to enhance PC accessibility, particularly in rural areas.
According to an official release, the company said the programme, which has been launched for the Indian market, will be expanded to other markets in 2024.
“Recognizing the limited PC adoption in rural and smaller towns, we aim to transform this landscape. Our new initiative is a significant step in our ongoing mission to bring affordable technology to everyone. It’s a game changer for those facing financial constraints, opening doors to PC usage,” said Gurpreet Singh Brar, Vice-President of HP India market, in the release.
Refurbished Scheme of HP:
(i) Initially, the focus will be on notebooks; offerings will be expanded and diversified in the near future.
(ii) The scheme will be operated in a subscription model, which according to the company will allow businesses to access the latest technology for 6, 12, or 24 months.
(iii)The refurbished laptops will be sold by its certified partner to retail businesses and other customers. The partner will also provide comprehensive post-sales support, including warranty.
The refurbishment programme stems from HP’s prior pilot initiatives, such as the redeployment of close to 20,000 devices per year for the workforce internally. Reportedly, the company added that every HP-certified refurbished device undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process ranging from memory enhancements to storage expansions tailored to individual preferences and requirements.
