The Chief Executive Officer of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a “terrific” meeting to discuss Google’s ongoing commitment to India.
Taking to social media platform X, Mr Pichai wrote, “Thank you, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the terrific meeting today to discuss Google’s ongoing commitment to India, and how we are expanding our operations, leveraging AI, and increasing our partnerships.”
PM Modi and Pichai held a virtual meeting on Monday. According to ANI’s report, PM Modi and Mr Pichai discussed Google’s plan to participate in expanding the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. The Prime Minister appreciated Google’s partnership with HP to manufacture Chromebooks in India, during their virtual interaction.
An official statement released by the Prime Minister’s office stated that the PM acknowledged Google’s 100 languages initiative and encouraged efforts to make AI tools available in Indian Languages. Moreover, he encouraged Google to work on AI tools for Good Governance.
As per available sources, the Prime Minister welcomed Google’s plans to open its global fintech operations centre at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. He also invited Google to contribute to the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, which will be hosted by India in December 2023 in New Delhi.
This also revolves around Google’s financial inclusion innovation and its upcoming innovative integration of artificial intelligence that could push the Indian economy’s growth even quicker.
Earlier in June 2023 also, both PM and Mr.Pichai had a one-on-one interaction, where they discussed the collaboration between Google and academic institutions in India to promote R&D and skill development. Back then, the Prime Minister had invited Mr. Pichai to explore further avenues of collaboration in the domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI); fintech; cybersecurity products and services; as well as mobile device manufacturing in India.
