The Indian government has announced the launch of the ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar’ initiative, which aims to encourage customers to ask for bills for all their purchases. The initiative is designed to promote transparency, accountability, and compliance in financial transactions. Here are the key details of the initiative:

Objective

The primary goal of the ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar’ initiative is to cultivate a culture where customers demand and receive bills for their purchases. This helps in preventing tax evasion and promoting legitimate transactions.

Prizes

As part of the initiative, customers who ask for bills and upload them to the system will have a chance to win prizes. There will be 800 lucky draws of Goods and Services Tax (GST) invoices with a prize value of Rs 10,000 each every month. Additionally, there will be 10 draws with a prize of Rs 10 lakh each every month. A quarterly bumper draw will award two prizes of Rs 1 crore each.

Eligibility

All Business-to-Consumer (B2C) invoices issued by GST registered suppliers to consumers will be eligible for the draw. Invoices with a minimum value of Rs 200 will be considered.

Procedure

Individuals can upload a maximum of 25 invoices in a month through the mobile application ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar,’ available on both iOS and Android platforms, as well as on the web portal ‘web.merabill.gst.gov.in.’ The uploaded invoices need to include details like the supplier’s GSTIN, invoice number, invoice date, invoice value, and state/UT of the customer.

Launch and Duration

The initiative will be launched on a pilot basis for 12 months, starting from September 1. It will initially be implemented in Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, and the Union Territories of Puducherry, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Daman & Diu.

Winner Selection

A monthly draw will take place, awarding prizes of Rs 10,000 each and Rs 10 lakh each. For the quarterly bumper prize, all invoices uploaded in the last three months will be eligible. Winners will be required to provide additional information like PAN number, Aadhaar card, and bank account details for prize transfer.
