Karnataka’s ‘Gruha Jyothi’ Scheme Attracts Over 51 Lakh Registrations for Free Electricity
The Karnataka Government’s monumental initiative, the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme, offering up to 200 units of free electricity to households, has witnessed an overwhelming response since its enrolment process began.
Despite the technical difficulties concerning the online registration portal, a total of 51,17,692 consumers have successfully registered for the scheme as of June 25, according to the Energy Department.
New avenues of registration
As technical glitches marred the registration last week, the participation in the program dwindled. To overcome this hurdle, the Energy Department has allowed consumers to register without any fee at any electricity office, Nadakacheri (government website), or through their own devices via the Seva Sindhu portal (https:evasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in).
The department also cautions consumers against falling prey to fraudulent sales websites claiming to be associated with the scheme. Additionally, the people have been advised to report any instances of bribery to the 24×7 helpline number 1912.
Separate Registration Link for Convenience:
To ensure ease of registration, the E-Governance Department has set up a separate registration link for 2,000 electricity offices across the state. This proactive measure has garnered an overwhelming response from the public, facilitating smoother enrolment into the scheme.
The Gruha Jyothi Scheme:
The Gruha Jyothi scheme is one of the five poll guarantees made by the Congress party during the Karnataka Assembly election, which ultimately led to their victory. The scheme aims to provide 200 units of free electricity to all households in the state, ensuring that basic power needs are met without any financial burden.
Programs similar to Gruha Jyothi
In addition to the Gruha Jyothi scheme, the Congress government has introduced a series of measures to address various socioeconomic challenges faced by the people of Karnataka. These include:
Gruha Lakshmi: The scheme offers Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family, acknowledging their crucial role in household management and empowering them financially.
Anna Bhagya: Under this initiative, 10 kilograms of rice is provided free of cost to every member of a below poverty line (BPL) household. This ensures food security and aids in poverty alleviation.
Yuva Nidhi: Unemployed graduate youth between the ages of 18 and 25 receive a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000, while unemployed diploma holders in the same age group receive Rs 1,500 for two years. This initiative aims to support the youth in their pursuit of employment opportunities and skill development.
Shakti: As part of this program, women are entitled to free travel in public transport buses, further promoting gender equality and encouraging women’s mobility.
The ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme introduced by the Karnataka Government, along with it’s counterparts reflect the Government’s commitment to satiate the needs of the people of Karnataka. These measures strive to uplift households, support women empowerment, ensure food security and battle unemployment across the state. These processes are sure to make the state of Karnataka undergo an overall upgradation in the quality of life.
