Abu Dhabi Waste Management PJSC (Tadweer) has joined forces with Renault Trucks Middle East and Al Masaood to unveil the UAE’s inaugural fully electric waste truck. This groundbreaking vehicle, also the first of its kind in the Middle East, aligns with the UAE’s sustainability goals and net-zero ambitions. Tadweer, responsible for waste management in Abu Dhabi, will utilise the Renault 100% electric truck for household waste collection. Manufactured by Renault Trucks through the dealership of Al Masaood, the launch took place during the EcoWaste Exhibition and Conference following an agreement between Tadweer and Al Masaood.
As the region’s pioneering heavy-duty truck, the Renault Trucks E-tech will undergo a pilot program in Abu Dhabi’s summer heat to evaluate its performance and address logistical challenges such as charging station availability along key routes. The effectiveness and success of the Renault Trucks D-Wide E-tech have already been demonstrated in European cities like Paris and Barcelona, where nearly 100 trucks have been adopted to fulfil sustainability commitments. By utilising these electric trucks, these cities are estimated to eliminate over 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing 1,000 cars from the roads each year. With a range of up to 200 kilometres between charges, these trucks have already proven their zero-emissions capability and performance. Tadweer eagerly anticipates assessing the electric truck’s performance on Abu Dhabi’s roads, particularly in the summer temperatures.
The introduction of the UAE’s first 100% electric waste truck supports Tadweer’s commitment to establishing an integrated waste management system and achieving a circular economy. The Renault Trucks D Wide 26t E-Tech Electric, equipped with a 23 cubic metre capacity Gorica-Farid electric garbage compactor, is the ideal vehicle for urban waste collection, boasting low operating costs, optimal range, and payload. It operates silently and emits zero tailpipe emissions while collecting household waste in Abu Dhabi.
Furthermore, the launch of the Renault E-Tech waste management truck reflects the UAE’s and Abu Dhabi’s dedication to electrified mobility strategies. The country recently pledged to install over 800 EV charging stations nationwide, solidifying its position at the forefront of global electric vehicle adoption.
