Volkswagen has unveiled a special limited edition version of its compact Polo GTI hot hatch, known as the ‘Edition 25’, which will soon be available for order in the UK. This exclusive trim celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Polo GTI and offers subtle design enhancements, increased performance, and a comprehensive standard equipment package.
With only 2,500 units worldwide, the ‘Edition 25’ features unique exterior details such as a honeycomb radiator grille, red accents, and 18-inch black gloss alloy wheels. It also includes advanced features like Matrix LED headlights and an electronic differential lock for improved handling.
Inside, the steering wheel and door sills bear special ’25’ branding, adding to the exclusive feel. The limited-run model retains the practicality and performance of the Polo GTI, which is regarded as a capable all-rounder. However, some reviewers note that it may lack the excitement found in its competitors, suggesting that it caters to a more mature audience.
Under the hood, the ‘Edition 25’ is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 207hp, providing a slight increase in power. This power boost results in a two-tenths of a second reduction in the Polo GTI’s 0-62 mph acceleration time, clocking in at 6.5 seconds.
While the UK pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, the limited edition model will go on sale in Germany in early June. It is manufactured in South Africa, like most of the Polo range. Pricing in Germany is expected to start just north of €35k (£30k), but specific UK pricing details have not been announced.
