Following a few days of consultation and discussion, Congress pioneer Siddaramaiah will assume responsibility as the new Boss Priest of Karnataka on Saturday. The State Party Chief DK Shivakumar and the former CM emerged as contenders for the top job following the party’s stunning victory in the recent polls.
On Tuesday, the pair had traveled to Delhi to meet with Party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge. On Saturday, May 20, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Karnataka is scheduled to swear in. Since Monday, the former Chief Minister had been camping in the capital. In a meeting that lasted more than an hour, the two leaders talked about a variety of issues related to the formation of the Karnataka Government.
After that, Siddaramaiah had gone to another meeting at the residence of K. C. Venugopal, the organization’s General Secretary. He is a nine-term MLA who won the Varuna supporters by an edge of 46,163 votes the week before.
Siddaramaiah addressed the Chamundeshwari Electorate in Mysuru in the Karnataka gathering multiple times – in 1983 as a Free, in 1985 on a Janata Party ticket, in 1994 and 2004 for the Janata Dal, and in 2006 for the Congress by a lean edge of 257 votes.
In 2018, Siddaramaiah ran for Varuna from Chamundeshwari and Badami, giving the seat to his son S Yathindra. In Chamundeshwari, he lost to JD(S) candidate GT Deve Gowda, but in Badami, he beat BJP candidate B Sriramulu by a slim margin of 1,996 votes.
The veteran leader had stated that this would be his last election in the lead-up to the elections in 2023. He had repeatedly stated, “I will retire from electoral politics.”
Siddaramaiah hails from the Kuruba people group, the third biggest station in Karnataka, and has recently led the AHINDA (Kannada abbreviation for minorities, in reverse classes, and Dalits) shows.
He was the JD(S)’s former State Unit Chief who was fired from the party and eventually joined the Congress in 2006 with his followers.
