Ankush Sachdeva, the Founder of ShareChat, is a well-known figure in the Indian Startup ecosystem. However, his journey to success was not easy. Before he hit the jackpot with ShareChat, Sachdeva failed 17 times. Despite these failures, he never gave up on his dream of building a successful business.
Sachdeva’s success came from recognizing the need for a vernacular social media platform that would help connect users from smaller towns and cities in India, where Facebook and other platforms were not user-friendly due to the complexity of the English language. In January 2015, Sachdeva founded Mohalla Tech Private Limited as a social networking platform for Indian audiences.
ShareChat, the flagship product of Mohalla Tech, is now available in 15 languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Odia, Kannada, Assamese, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, and English. As of June 2022, the company is valued at around 5 billion dollars or more than Rs 40,000 crores.
Sachdeva completed his senior secondary schooling at Somerville School and later enrolled at IIT Kanpur in 2011, pursuing a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Computer Science. He completed his B.Tech. degree in 2015 and interned at Microsoft from May to July 2014.
Before founding ShareChat, Sachdeva started 17 startups, all of which failed. It was in his 18th attempt that he collaborated with his two IIT-ian friends, Farid Ahsan and Bhanu Singh, on the ShareChat app, which was launched in October 2015.
ShareChat is headquartered in Bangalore, and Sachdeva serves as its CEO. The platform has a footprint of more than 350 million monthly active users across India. ShareChat also employs over 2500 employees.
Sachdeva’s story is motivating because it showcases the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of failure. ShareChat is a testament to Sachdeva’s vision and hard work. His story is a reminder that success is possible with hard work, a willingness to learn, and never giving up on one’s dreams.
