Gmail users will be able to distinguish authentic senders from imposters thanks to a new tool that Google is bringing to the platform. For verified users who have implemented Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, the tech giant is adding a “blue tick.” Google made the announcement in a blog post on the Workspace website, stating that “In 2021, we introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, a feature that requires senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo in order to display a brand logo as an avatar in emails.” Users will now see a checkmark icon for senders who have implemented BIMI, expanding on that feature. Users would be able to distinguish communications from real senders from those from impersonators thanks to this, it said.
Why are blue checkmarks on Gmail significant?
Google says that the blue check mark will help users and email security systems identify and stop spam. It will also enable senders to leverage their brand trust.
According to Google’s blog post, “this boosts trust in email sources and provides readers with an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone.”
Who is qualified?
All users of Google Workspace, as well as old G Suite Basic and Business users and users of personal Google Accounts, have access to the blue checkmark. Beginning on May 3, the feature has been made available to end users. How may Gmail users obtain blue checks?
The brand-controlled use of logos within compatible email clients is made possible by the upcoming email specification known as Brand Indicators for Message Identification, or BIMI. By delivering brand logos to the customer’s inbox, BIMI makes the most of the work an organisation has put into installing DMARC security. In order to get the verification mark, one needs to verify their logo on BIMI. To do so, set up your account on BIMI using the domain information. Next, upload your brand logo and register it as a trademark. You can now apply for a verified mark certificate (VMC) to get a blue check mark for your brand logo on Gmail.
