Reliance Industries, with a $104 billion (sales) market cap with holdings in petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom, and retail, is chaired and operated by Mukesh Ambani. His net worth is $84.1 billion, ranking him as the 13th richest billionaire in the world according to Forbes.
Mukesh Ambani was born in Aden, Yemen, where his father was a petrol station attendant. He graduated from the University of Bombay (now the University of Mumbai) with a bachelor’s in chemical engineering before going on to Stanford University to acquire a master’s in business administration. But he left the program in 1981 to work for the family firm, where he tried his hand at petrochemicals, infrastructure, polyester fibers, oil and gas production, communications, and other areas to diversify the business.
The 27-story Antilla, owned by Mukesh Ambani, is one of the most expensive residential buildings in the world and theoretically has 60 floors. Antilia’s lowest six levels are designated for parking his opulent vehicles, such as the Maybach, Rolls Royce Cullinan, BMW 760 Li, etc.
In addition to this, he is the owner of the big, opulent Stole Park Hotel in the UK and the Mandarin Oriental, a 900-year-old hotel in London. He is also well known for having a variety of extremely expensive private aircraft. He has three private aircraft in total. The estimated cost of the three aircraft—the Airbus A319, Falcon 900EX, and Boeing Business Jet—is $100 crore.
Despite his wealth, it is believed that Ambani is a very modest man who loves eating clean vegetarian food that is made at home. He was named the second-best CEO in the world by the Global Brand Guardianship Index 2023 and was named the fifth-best CEO in the world by Harvard Business Review. In addition, Mukesh Ambani was honored with the Businessman of the Year Award in 2010 and the TIME 100 Most Influential People in 2019 and 2020.
