According to the Tamil Nadu government, up to 25 startups have expressed interest in signing memorandums of understanding with the Centres of Excellence that Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated. The state government’s “Olir” (shine) project said that the startups will be able to expand more quickly by exploiting the cutting-edge multi-sector Industry 4.0 Centres of Excellence at “optimal costs.” The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (StartupTN) have developed the Centres of Excellence.
Inaugurating the three Centres of Excellence in 2022 were TANSAM (Tamil Nadu Smart and Advanced Manufacturing Centre), TANCAM (Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing), and TAMCOE (Tamil Nadu Advance Manufacturing Centre of Excellence). Startups may speed up their design, prototyping, and development testing by using the expertise provided by these specific institutions. A recent event featured participation from close to 250 chief executive officers (CEOs) from businesses in a variety of industries, including advanced manufacturing, robotics, e-commerce, aerospace and military, and agricultural technology.
The intra-connectivity between government agencies and the inter-connectivity with the private sector have both improved, according to S Krishnan, Additional Chief Secretary for the Industries Department. Olir is expected to continue this momentum and produce better results for all stakeholders, he added. Jayashree Muralidharan, the managing director of TIDCO, emphasised the value of startups in maintaining Tamil Nadu’s status as an industrial leader.
Sivarajah Ramanathan, Chief Executive Officer of Startup TN, asserted that a number of state government initiatives carried out by StartupTN will elevate Tamil Nadu to the status of a premier startup hub. He stated that the reaction to the introduction of Olir from startups has been outstanding and emphasized the necessity for exposure trips from such businesses to the Centres of Excellence.
