Tata will manufacture Airbus aircraft in India: Vadodara’s Transporter 295MW
C-295MW transporter aircraft manufactured by Airbus for India will soon enter service. The footage of the first batch of aircraft to be manufactured in Spain has come out.
India’s first C-295 aircraft has rolled out of the Airbus Defense Production Facility in Seville, southern Spain. The rest of the planes will be manufactured from the aircraft manufacturing plant set up by India in Vadodara under Make in India.
On 24 September 2021, the Ministry of Defense signed a ₹21,935 crore contract with Airbus Defense and Space to manufacture 56 C-295 MW aircraft along with related equipment.
Of the 56 contracted aircraft, 16 will arrive in India between September 2023 and August 2025 from Spain. The remaining 40 will be built at the aircraft manufacturing plant in Vadodara between September 2026 and 2031 at a rate of eight aircraft per year. The IAF will establish its first C-295 squadron at Vadodara by converting the Avro squadron at Vadodara as the Spanish-built aircraft starts arriving in India.
On October 30, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing facility to be set up by Airbus Defense and Space and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) at Vadodara. This is the first time that a private sector company is fully manufacturing an aircraft in the country. This is a big step forward for India in the global aircraft manufacturing sector.

Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems entered into a collaboration for the manufacture and assembly of C-295 aircraft for the IAF. As per the agreement, Tata Advanced Systems has been selected by Airbus as the Indian Production Agency (IPA). Tata will not only manufacture 40 fly-away C-295 aircraft from its facilities, but will also provide MRO support and services for a total of 56 aircraft purchased by the IAF.
