According to the latest industry figures, the export of Indian smartphones is anticipated to have exceeded $10 billion (more than Rs 82,000 crore) in the most recent fiscal year 2023.
According to the Asian Lite, Apple’s “Made in India” smartphones currently account for 50% of all exports, followed by Samsung with 40% of mobile exports and other smartphone manufacturers with the remaining 10%.
India is dominating the Global Electronics manufacturing scene and is doing well. The Government is placing a strong emphasis on smartphone manufacture and prioritising the Telecom sector.
Global Industrial behemoths are now favouring India. The biggest phone manufacturing facility in the world was just opened by Samsung in India. Apple and other key international titans have both expanded significantly in the nation. According to the Asian Lite, International companies like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Lava have also established bases and increased their operational reach in India.
India’s exports of smartphones have more than quadrupled since the same time period in the previous fiscal year, thanks in large part to production-linked incentive (PLI) programmes.
According to ICEA statistics, India now exports mobile phones to the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy in that order. In India, where just two plants were active in 2014, there are already more than 260 facilities producing mobile phones and accessories.
India has made significant progress in the production of mobile devices. According to the Asian Light, which cited NewsonAir, this is one sector where the “Made in India” initiative has really had an impact.
Mobile phone production in the Nation has grown at an impressive rate, writing a successful International success story. The manufacturing of mobile phones in the nation surged, from 5.8 crore units valued at around Rs 18,900 crore in 2014–15 to 31 crore units valued at more than Rs 2,75,000 crore in the most recent fiscal year, according to Budget 2023.
India’s exports of mobile devices were almost “nil” in 2015 and increased to Rs 27,000 crore in 2019–20. The PLI Scheme has been the actual game-changer.
When the programme was introduced in April 2020, the IT Ministry said that during the first year, the manufacture of mobile phones increased by 66% to Rs 45,000 crore.
