The Government has extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Number-PAN- with Aadhaar till 30 June 2023. Earlier, the Income Tax Department had made it mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar card by March 31, 2023. The IT Department has also provided links on its website for taxpayers to check whether their PAN has been linked. If they fail to link PAN-AADHAR by June 30, their PAN will be deactivated. That means you cannot file income tax returns, perform many banking services or conduct stock market transactions.

Now check Aadhaar-PAN card link status online?

  • 1. Go to Income Tax e-Filing Portal — https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
  • 2. On the homepage, select Quick Links and then take Link Aadhaar Status
  • 3. Now you will see two fields where you need to enter PAN and Aadhaar numbers
  • 4. After this, a pop-up message will appear
  • 5. Once Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the message will say that your PAN is already linked with the given Aadhaar
  • 6. If your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, your screen will show PAN not linked with Aadhaar
  • Now click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ to link your Aadhaar with PANcard
  • 7. If the Aadhaar-PAN link is in progress, you will see a message that your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation – check the status later by clicking on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link on the home page.

To check the status of your documents through SMS, the tax payer needs to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161. If your Aadhaar card is linked with PANcard, you will get a message that PAN is linked with Aadhaar in ITD database.
