BrahMos Aerospace is in negotiations to sell BrahMos missiles to various nations in SouthEast Asia and the Middle East, which would be a significant boost for India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
In terms of its BrahMos missile project, BrahMos Aerospace, a joint company between India and Russia, has reached an indigenous capability of 75%. According to Atul Rane, MD & CEO of BrahMos Aerospace, discussions to provide BrahMos missiles to Indonesia are now in progress. Discussions were also being held with a few additional Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian nations.
The Philippines and BrahMos Aerospace agreed to a contract in January 2022 for the Filipino Marines to purchase three batteries of BrahMos cruise missiles for close to $375 million. The agreement was viewed as a boost for India’s attempts to establish itself as a major exporter of defense equipment.
The South China Sea is one possible location for the system to be deployed, according to reports that the Filipino Marines are considering employing the BrahMos as a shore-based anti-ship missile.
Additionally receiving domestic orders is BrahMos Aerospace. According to sources, the Indian Navy intends to buy more than 200 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, which would be installed on all of the maritime force’s frontline warships.
The missile with a high level of indigenous content has just undergone test firings by the Indo-Russian joint venture business. The missile will also be fitted with an indigenous seeker.
According to officials cited by ANI, “the Indian Navy proposal to acquire more than 200 of these BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles is at an advanced stage and is expected to be cleared by the Defence Ministry soon.”
