Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Indian Ministry of Defence have agreed to a Rs 667 crore purchase agreement for six Dornier-228 aircraft. The new aircraft will be used by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for communications, route transport roles, and transport pilot training.
The Dornier-228 aircraft is fitted with an updated fuel-efficient engine and a five-bladed composite propeller, which makes it ideal for short-haul operations, particularly from short and partially prepared runways in the North East of India and island chains. The IAF’s fleet will become stronger with the addition of these six aircraft, improving the capability of the force to operate in outlying areas.
The Dornier-228 is a significant asset for any air force and is renowned for its dependability and adaptability in the field. The IAF has made a demonstrated commitment to preserving cutting-edge capabilities by choosing to invest in these aircraft. This purchase agreement is an important step in ensuring that the IAF can carry out its missions with the greatest efficiency, safety, and dependability. The agreement with HAL demonstrates the Ministry of Defence and HAL’s strong working relationship as well as their shared goal of enhancing India’s defence capabilities.
