GAIL (India) Ltd today established an incubation cell, the first-of-its-kind in the sector, to educate spouses about the start-up environment and give mentorship, training, and support with the required tools to start their own companies. Shakun Gupta, GAIL’s first woman, and Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, GAIL inaugurated the project today, a day ahead of International Women’s Day, in the presence of R K Jain, Director (Finance), Deepak Gupta, Director (Projects), Ayush Gupta, Director (HR), and their wives.
GAIL attracts high-caliber personnel, whose spouses are also equally professionally skilled. Unfortunately, the presence of GAIL townships, which are generally located in rural areas, provides very little opportunity for such a brilliant group to utilize and demonstrate their skills and find acceptable professional engagements. To address this issue, ‘GAIL Abha’ is expected to provide employees’ wives with a professionally satisfying experience while also positively contributing to the economy and society.
The first few weeks will be devoted to entrepreneurship seminars and boot camps that will inspire participants to develop concepts and assess their value proposition. The finest ideas will be shortlisted through presentations, followed by a rigorous 21-week period of turning ideas into businesses. During this time, biweekly hand-holding meetings will be held, along with mentorship and support with seed-funding, business registration, and facilitations such as Start-up India Seed Fund.
