The Southern Naval Command organised a cycling expedition between Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to commemorate the 36-year service of INS Magar, the lead ship in the Indian Navy’s amphibious warfare vessel category. The cycling expedition, which was flagged off from Kochi on February 22 to the 91 Infantry Brigade at Thiruvananthapuram, returned to the Naval base on Monday, according to the Navy.
According to the Navy, 36 cyclists, including four army personnel from the 91 Infantry Brigade, participated in the expedition, which covered approximately 500 kilometres in five days. The INS Magar is scheduled to be decommissioned this year. The team also interacted with the local community, including a visit to the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Orphanage and Rehabilitation Centre in the state capital.
INS Magar is a landing ship that has participated in a variety of amphibious operations in close collaboration with an army unit.
