In India, social life is not easy for the disabled. Many public places are not accessible to them as the concept of inclusivity is still a novel concept in the nation.

The Bengaluru-based startup RampMyCity started by Prateek Khandelwal, who suffered paraplegia due to a spinal cord injury in 2014, attempts the fill this gap.

His accessibility startup strives to improve the quality of life of the physically-challenged people across India so that they can enjoy life at its fullest.

Prateek Khandelwal's startup 'RampMyCity' makes outdoor life easier to wheelchair-bound people

Prateek started RampMyCity in 2018 following his spinal cord injury in 2014. His wheelchair-bound life inspired him to launch this idea. He realised that the buildings in India are not designed in a way to support disabled people. The initial idea was to make restaurants accessible for wheelchair users. Over time, the startup has made mainstream places like residential societies, schools, workplaces, colleges, public parks, police stations, ATMs, hotels, supermarkets and government places accessible through simple infrastructure solutions.

It has so far made more than 300 places disable-friendly. The startup also provides hands-on training and awareness programmes to the staff of an organisation to change their attitude towards the disabled community.

Prateek is also the founder and managing director of IBTB (I Break The Barrier), a for-profit social startup for people with disabilities and the elderly. To know more details about RampMyCity, contact 09113863627 or email: rampmycity@gmail.com
