Noticed that some of the most bizarre inventions that humanity has never known it needed are made in Japan?
Well, a bean bag that you can wear is another item to add to the list.
The Japanese company “Takikou Sewing” has come up with a strange yet innovative idea: a wearable bean bag. Yes ! It may sound and look weird at the same time, but this pear-shaped, goofy-looking bean bag is already a hit on Japanese social media.
According to its manufacturer, Takiko Sewing, the concept behind the wearable bean bag is to let go anytime and anywhere. Takikawa said that the idea wasn’t necessarily born out of the COVID-19 pandemic and work-from-home requirements. It was when the prototype of the product became popular among the company staff that they decided to go with it.
The outfit comes in three sizes – one for children, a medium and a large – and is priced at 15,800 yen (£100).
The wearable beanbag could prove a seasonal hit in Japan, where many homes typically lack central heating. And of course, you don’t always have to wear this bean bag. It can double as a normal bean bag too.
Although lounging on a bean bag might itself be soothing , this Japan based company takes it to a next level of comfort.
The West has outgrown bean bag chairs for almost half a century but nothing really goes out of fashion in Japan: people will either stick with something for decades and swear by its vintage qualities, or they’ll find ways to repurpose and give it a second wind. The Hanalolo Wearable Bean Bag Pillow is one such case where the chairs that defined the late 1960s and early 1970s come back to life as a kind of oversized vest!
