Periyathambi, Subramani, Murugesan, Ayyanar, Muthumanickam, and Tamilselvan

Periyathambi, a farmer by trade, is a native of the charming village of Chinnaveeramangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district. Being an agricultural family, they were totally reliant on the 10 acres of land they owned in the community. However, the land is left fallow for six months of the year due to the arid climate in the area. The family began looking for alternative revenue streams as a result.

Pongal Celebration

The five grandkids of Periyathambi, Subramani, Murugesan, Ayyanar, Muthumanickam, and Tamilselvan, have always aspired to work as chefs around the world. In 2018, their last-minute attempts to relocate to the US failed.

With his brothers and cousins, Subramani started a YouTube channel in 2019.

Their grandpa Periyathambi, who has been cooking for the past 50 years, was also brought on board. The fact that they prepare traditional Chettinad foods in a calm setting, such as next to a river or inside of farms or agricultural fields, is what has made the youngsters and Periyathambi’s channel become an internet sensation.

One thing the cousins all agreed on when they decided to launch a YouTube channel was that it would focus on cooking. The team decided to become more helpful once the channel gained momentum. We made the decision to give back to the people who showed us so much love when we began to make money from YouTube.”

As a result, the cooking expanded. Elderly residents of a nearby nursing home received the food. Once they reached one million subscribers, they prepared biryani and delivered it to the elderly residents of the nursing home, along with some supplies for them. On days when they were filming YouTube videos, they soon began to also serve the villagers.

Village Cooking Channel reached the milestone of 10 million YouTube subscribers in July 2022, which is an exceptional achievement for a cooking channel, especially one that is in a regional language. One million more viewers joined the channel during the course of the following two weeks. The channel now has around 1.96 crore subscribers.
