Indian-made film “The Elephant Whispers” makes the Oscar list of nominations in the category “Best Documentary Short.” It is 41 minutes long and premiered on Netflix.The documentary was one of the fifteen documentary short films to be shortlisted at the 95th Academy Awards.
Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, The Elephant Whisperers tells the story of a South Indian couple who devote their lives to caring for an orphaned elephant calf. The other nominees in Best Documentary Short category are – Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year? Stranger At the Gate and The Martha Mitchell Effect.
The Oscar nominations were announced by actors Alison Williams and Riz Ahmed. The 95th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 12. Jimmy Kimmel will host for the third time.The documentary is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain under the banner of Sikhya Entertainment. The documentary was screened at the United States of America’s documentary festival – DOC NYC 2022 Film Festival on November 10, 2022.
The Elephant Whisperer talks about a Bomman and Bellie, a couple in South India, who devote their lives to caring for an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu, forging a family like no other that tests the barrier between the human and the animal world.
