The only telco in India lacking a fully functional 4G network is Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The telco is attempting to introduce 4G and 5G services using locally created technology. Beginning next month with 50 radio units, BSNL intends to start testing the locally designed solution on a live network.
Testing of Equipment over Static Network
The equipment, which was created in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), has previously been demonstrated to be capable of handling 10 million calls at once over a static network. After the Technology has undergone satisfactory testing on a Live Network, the wider distribution will start.
In order to ensure that there would be sufficient supply once the rollout begins, TCS has told BSNL that it is close to securing relationships with at least three contract manufacturers to create the radio equipment. Tejas Networks is also anticipated to produce the network hardware domestically. The state-run telecom BSNL intends to launch 100,000 4G sites at a cost of Rs 15,000–16,000 crore.
The launch of 4G by BSNL has been postponed numerous times for different factors. The time needed for testing the locally created 4G technology is one factor in the delay. Price discussions are another factor. However, the official claims that a deal has finally been made about the Rs 15,000–16,000 crore sale for 100,000 sites, which includes 40-watt radio sets.
If BSNL’s 4G network is a success, India might join the ranks of nations with established telecom network technologies, including the US, Sweden, Finland, South Korea, and China. At the India Mobile Congress last year, C-DOT showcased its cutting-edge homegrown telecom technologies and creative solutions (IMC). Since testing has already been completed, 5G will start at the same time as the 4G deployment. The government wants the private telecoms to utilise the locally created technology whenever BSNL releases 4G with it.
Customers of BSNL have been waiting for 4G services for a while, and now that private carriers are rolling out 5G technology, they anticipate getting 5G technology from BSNL as well.
