In order to expand capacity, the Air Force will update its Sukhoi planes for $4 billion

The Indian Air Force needs $4 billion to upgrade its Sukhoi fighter force. The upgrading programme has already been presented by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and it is anticipated that it will be authorised by the government shortly.

According to HS, 150 fighter aircraft would upgrade a fifth-generation fighter jet as a “Super Sukhoi,” increasing the Indian Air Force’s fighter capabilities significantly.

150 aircraft will be updated once the Sukhoi-30 MKI’s equipment and systems have been finalised by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the Indian Air Force. Russia has given its approval to the “Super Sukhoi” programme because Sukhoi-30 MKIs are jointly produced by Russia and India. Russia will supply many of the components and parts needed to improve Sukhoi. The cockpit of the Super Sukhoi will be modern. As avionics and sensors make up a large portion of the upgrade, 150 fighter planes are now theoretically interoperable with fifth-generation fifty jets.

The Uttam MK3 AESA Fire Control radar will be created by HAL for the ‘Super Sukhoi’ programme. In 2024, HAL will start testing a number of the Super Sukhoi program’s components. New systems will be installed in the prototypes for the Super Sukhoi programme, which will debut in 2027–2028. The Air Force Sukhoi-30 MKI’s software is degrading so quickly that an upgrade is now required to maintain it useful in upcoming air conflicts. By 2025, the Air Force anticipates having the first Super Sukhoi aircraft in service.

The “Super Sukhoi,” which was jointly developed with the Russian Sukhoi business, will be a multi-goddess that could rule the surrounding nations and the whole Indian Ocean region. This aircraft’s feathers will be composed of carbon fibre.

Evolution of Sukhoi

The modernization programme will improve the cockpit and its systems. It has been made so that pilots can easily transition to fifth-generation combat aircraft. In conjunction with this, the BrahMos air-to-ground supersonic cruise missile programme will help update the aircraft. Now that the divided work under the modernization programme has been finalised by the Russian Company and the Indian Ministry of Defense, it will be decided which work will be performed in Russia and which in India.
