Young Innovators Program (YIP) is an initiative of the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) that involves the students in the development of the country. YIP aims to ensure the sustainable development of our country as the world progresses rapidly.

A lot of students have already presented their ideas in this project, which seeks innovative ideas from students and ensures development in all sectors of the country under the slogan of ‘From ideas to opportunities’. Through the Young Innovators Program, students have made many inventions that solve various problems of daily life like agriculture, energy conservation, drinking water, medicine and children’s problems.

Anoop Kumar, a research student of SD College, Alappuzha, and his team solved the Kulavazha problem, which is a major headache for farmers in Kerala, by participating in the YIP. Agriculture is an occupation that requires a lot of physical activity.

Advait, a plus two student of CKG Memorial HSS in Kozhikode district came to the YIP platform with the idea of a Multipurpose Agricultural vehicle that can be used by farmers for more than one purpose to simplify the agricultural sector. It was Anurupa who introduced the idea of rechargeable herbal mosquito repellent. Anurupa is a Research Scholar in the Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, University of Kerala. Riju Thomas and his team came up with the concept of Fingerprint Bikestarter with the aim of catching auto thieves. Similarly, many students have brought their ideas to practical level through the YIP platform.

Teams of students aged between 13 and 37, who have their own ideas will get a chance in the Young Innovative Program – K-Disc Member Secretary Dr. PV Unnikrishnan says. He also stated that the project started in Kerala in 2018 has already become a model for other states. K-DISC provides highly qualified and experienced mentors to students. YIP was developed by K- DISC to show how to grow a business scientifically by solving everyday life problems.

A prize of Rs 25000 at the district level and Rs 50000 at the state level will be awarded to the best selected project. Funding for the project is in addition to this. The school-level program is organised by K-DISC and the Public Education Department in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Kerala under the name YIP Shastrapatham. Ideas are now being accepted in this section.
